Ethel & Grace Butterworth were sisters. In 1919, Mr. Butterworth purchased two additional acres which abutted his property to the East from Francis Nelson, an Ottawa civil servant. The purpose of this purchase was to preserve the view down to the Ottawa River Valley. Included in this purchase was an additional 20 foot "right of way" down to the Kingsmere Road but still no "owned" access all the way to the public road. In 1924, in order to finally secure ownership of direct access to the Public Road, Mr. Butterworth made his final land purchase. This parcel of some 1.1 acres was acquired from Lawrence Dunn's son, Harry. By then, Harry was the owner of the Dunn family farm. This adjoining tract included some 160 feet of frontage on the Kingsmere Road. (see Photo by Malik, 1951)
