My great grandfather (far left) and his ship, the SS Baltabor, stuck in the ice for 18 days in Feb 1922, at the “Reil Canal”. My great grandfather was a Marconi (wireless) Operator in the British Merchant Navy for 20 years. Does anywhere know where the Reil Canal is?

Grandma Martens (was Kathryn Siebert) married Charles Martens. This was after Greg Martens’ mother (Julia Robichaud) died of rabies when Greg was 3. Greg had a younger brother, Cletus who drowned in a rain barrel at the age of 2 years. After Greg’s mother died, he was moved from relative to relative as his father (Charles Martens) first was a traveling salesman and then in 1923 owned and operated a general store with his brother, Raymond, in Pound, Wisconsin. Charles and Kathryn (Seaver) married and had 4 more children. Bette (Martens) Smith, married Brian Smith—they had 4 children, Theresa, David, Stuart and Trevor. Sally Martens married William Kelly (daughter Tammy) and had 4 children, Tracey, Tammy, Scott and Steven. Jimmy Martens lived out West and married Charlene (his next door neighbor). He worked for a title loan company. They had 2 children, Jeff and Talese. They got divorced. Jimmy passed in 2021. Bobbie Martens went into the priesthood and became Father John Martens. He passed away from a sudden stroke when he was 58. He had a parish in Prescott, AZ. Wonderful man!
