Married in August 1914, James L. Snider is seen here with his wife, Edith, who is holding their 2nd child, Nick. Nicholas was born in February 1917 and appears to be less than 1 year old here, dating the photo to about 1917, a time period one year prior to the Spanish Flu epidemic and a year or so from the end of WWI. Their eldest child William, born July 1915, is sitting beside James. The Sniders first lived in Washington County, Ky. but later moved to Nelson County. Nicholas was my maternal grandfather. He told me that he remembers moving their cattle to the new farm in Nelson County, Ky., making the trip on foot down Lick Skillet Rd. in Washington Co., traveling with the cattle for 17 miles. If they walked at 2mph, it would have taken tbem over 8 hours. Impressive!
